Completely undamaged
Most of the Freesias flattened.I spent outdoor time Friday sweeping up leaves and branches and watering what the wind had dried out. Most of the Iris were bent into every direction but straight up. These huddled together like motherless kittens:
Happy blooms, despite all.
A strong Santa Ana wind event Wednesday continuing into Thursday night left the garden battered.
The blue tuteur gets knocked over every time:
Most of the Freesias flattened.I spent outdoor time Friday sweeping up leaves and branches and watering what the wind had dried out. Most of the Iris were bent into every direction but straight up. These huddled together like motherless kittens:
Yet the delicate, brittle emerging strands of Clematis seemed unbothered:
A few shots, then, of other plants that handled the wind quite well, and no more pictures of the flatted, shredded ones. Hey, it's not even spring yet. The garden will recover.
Happy blooms, despite all.
Your garden fared very well with the wind, how strong did it get there? Ours was going pretty good around 35mph - enough to make it slightly annoying to be outside.
ReplyDeleteWe had wind for hours at 50mph+. Woke us up and all the crashes outside scared the dogs. It was pretty bad but at least it wasn't for days on end. Could have been worse.
DeleteLots of beautiful things in your garden despite the wind. I had no idea freesias were so floppy. I love that scene with the white daisy flowers and agaves.
ReplyDeleteWell the freesias are very floppy here--not sure if they are so everywhere.
DeleteThe mass of Rhodanthems with the 'Blue Glow' Agaves is the best bit of the garden at the moment.
We had our first 70-degree day yesterday under sunny skies, it was lovely--until the wind kicked up and started throwing things around and bending the plants I was trying to prune. Ah well, at least it was warm and we desperately need that to start sorting out the truly dead from the merely dead-looking. Lovely blooms!
ReplyDeleteA few days of warm weather will either wake up the survivors--or you'll know they didn't make it. Hope you have lots of good surprises in your garden.
DeleteUgh, Santa Ana winds are worse than tumultuous downpours in more ways than one. The wind event was felt here but it was nowhere near as intense as what you experienced. I'm glad to see that spring moves forward nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteSpring seems a little slower here than where you are, but with some warm days forecast, that may change quickly. Yeah the wind here was pretty bad. I think we got the worst of it.
DeleteBeautiful images, even with the wind damage. Sorry you have to deal with that. We're getting it today, so I understand. Your plants and blooms look lovely, though.
ReplyDeleteI hope your wind even is not too bad for your garden with plants beginning to wake up. The plants here seem to be recovering, for the most part.
DeleteWhat a vivid picture you've painted of the dutch iris... "huddled together like motherless kittens". I could almost hear them meow :-)
ReplyDeleteWhite daisy and (blue glow?) agave: perfection!

The wind was bad! It even scared the normally serene Boris.
DeleteYes, 'Blue Glow'. Perfection! :)
