Pink and blue(ish) foliage on Kalanchoe luciae.
Pink stems and blue foliage (with pink tips) on Oscularia deltoides.
The same--pink stems and blue foliage (with pink tips) on a Lecadendron.
Stems not visible on this Dudleya, but again, blue foliage with pink tips. Seems to be a trend here this January.
Aloe 'Blue Elf'
Aloe peglarae
All sorts of pink and blue in the garden, but the foliage wonder of this January are the local hills. They are a color we have not seen for several years because of the drought, a color far more amazing than pink and blue: green!
While in the garden, I got a bit better camera angle on Mrs. Hummer, while staying farther away. Note how her nest is placed: under the overhang of the balcony for some rain protection, but close enough to the edge so that sunlight can keep the eggs warm while she dashes off for nectar. Due to their frenetic metabolism, hummingbirds must feed at least once an hour.

The blue colour of succulents gets enhanced when they take on the pink tinge too
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get much pink last winter because we didn't have a winter. This year is better.
DeleteGreen hills! It's almost hard to believe they can turn that color. I'm seeing more pink stems and leave edges too this year, which I guess must be the plants' response to the colder weather we had. I didn't realize that Aloe 'Blue Elf' turns pink - I picked up 2 pots of this Aloe last weekend, attracted by their blue and green color.
ReplyDeleteGrown hard they get pinker in winter. They had a rough time here the last few years as they don't get much water where they are.
DeleteYour garden does pink and blue quite well!
ReplyDeleteBetter than I do.
Delete"but the foliage wonder of this January are the local hills. They are a color we have not seen for several years because of the drought, a color far more amazing than pink and blue: green!"
ReplyDeleteGot a good laugh out of this!
:^)
DeleteBeautiful colours. And even more beautiful hummer!
ReplyDeleteHummers are the jewelry of the garden.
DeleteSo happy that you see green hills again! What a relief!!! Love all the pink and blue succulents too. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful, but we still need more rain. It's an anxious winter.
DeleteMy father moved to California to be near my family two years ago. We were driving through the west San Fernando valley when he looked up and exclaimed "Hey! The hills are green! I didn't know they did that." 😊 Yes indeed, more rain please!
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten the hills could green up. It's been that long!
DeleteI wish I had a frenetic metabolism! As far as green, I've grown so accustomed to greys, browns and golds, that green looks unreal now.
ReplyDeleteI envy her energy, if not her responsibilities.
DeleteGreen is good.
Not normally a fan of pink, but in unexpected places...I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love pink, always have. Hey, nobody's perfect. :)
